From time to time we receive requests for window decals to identify which room their child is in. Clarksville Fire Rescue has decided, based on National Fire Protection Agency recommendation, to stop giving out these stickers. The National Fire Protection Agency doesn't recommend using these stickers for the following reasons:
- These decals might show a child abductor where a child is sleeping.
- If the room is no longer occupied by a child because they changed rooms or they got older and moved out valuable time might be wasted searching for someone not there. This time could be used helping other family members get out.
It is now recommended by the National Fire Protection Agency that families install smoke alarms and check them regularly to be sure they are effective. It is also recommended that families develop and regularly practice a fire escape plan in their homes.
