The mission of the Clarksville Police Department Tactical Unit
is recognizing that the presence of the highly trained, highly skilled police tactical unit has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury, of loss of life to citizens, police officers and suspects: and recognizing that a well managed “team” response to high risk situations usually results in a successful resolution, it is the intent of the Clarksville Police Department’s Tactical Unit to provide a highly trained and skilled tactical team as a resource for the Clarksville Police Department in the handling of high risk situations.

The primary function of the Clarksville Police Department Tactical Unit is to “Save Lives.”

The Clarksville Police Department’s Tactical Unit consists of specially trained operators, selected from all sections within the police department. Team members are selected through a process consisting of physical, mental and weapons evaluations with a historical attrition rate of 70%. The Tactical Unit responds to a variety of calls that include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Hostage Situations
• Suicidal Subjects
• Barricaded Subjects
• High Risk Warrant Service
• Dignitary/VIP Protections
• Special Circumstances as Directed by the Chief of Police

The Tactical Unit maintains and trains with the most modern equipment and tactics and responds to approximately 33 calls for service each year.
