The Clarksville Mounted Police trains yearly with the Metro-Nashville Mounted Police, and has assisted them by working Titans games and parades. Since its inception, the Mounted Police duties and responsibilities have grown locally to include search and rescue, crowd control, assisting patrol, working high crime areas, parades, school visits and special events.

The Clarksville Mounted Police is dedicated to enforcing the law, and upholding the concepts of community policing as well as supporting the goals and objectives of the Clarksville Police Department.

The Clarksville Mounted Police was established in 1999 by Lt. Frank Gray, and designed to further public relations, assist patrol, and to work special events. Original members were Cpt. Larry Cole, Lt. Frank Gray, Sgt. Dale Ward, and Officer Mike Davis. The unit started out with 2 horses and has since grown to 7 horses. All Mounted Police horses are Tennessee Walkers and most have been donated.

A volunteer program, Citizens Out Lending Time and Support, (C.O.L.T.S.) was formed in November 2001 to assist with the care and feeding of the horses. A Mounted Police Reserve Unite followed in September 2002. In July 2003, Officer Mike Davis became the first full time officer and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit.
