TESTING AND EMPLOYMENT PROCESS

The Clarksville Police Department tests for police officer candidates four times per year in January, April, July and October.

The physical fitness test will consist of a 1.5 mile run, a 300 meter run, 1 minute sit ups and 1 minute pushups. Times and repetitions are based on gender and age.

The physical fitness test is based on standards set by the Cooper Institute, Dallas, Texas

To review your times and repetition Click Here

Applicants must bring their physical agility testing form, issued by the Montgomery County Career Services Office, that lists the applicant's time and date for their physical agility test.  If the applicant does not have the physical agility testing form with them when they report for the test, they will not be permitted to participate in the physical agility testing.

The second phase of the process is a standardized written test. This test measures reading comprehension, writing skills and math skills. There is also a personality assessment. A score of 70% or better is needed to pass.

Applicants will be required to produce a photo ID prior to taking the written examination that is administered at the Montgomery County Career Center.  If the applicant is not able to produce a photo ID, they will not be permitted to participate in the written examination.

The third phase consists of an extensive background investigation.

The fourth phase is an interview with two members of the Command Staff.

The final phase is an interview with the Chief of Police.

The Chief of Police selects the applicants that will be given a conditional offer of employment. This job offer is contingent upon the applicant's successfully completing a physical exam, a drug screen, psychological exam, and a polygraph test.

If an applicant fails the physical agility test or written examination they will be eligible to re-apply by submitting a new application to the Tennessee Career Center for the next available testing process. The duration of the hiring process for the Clarksville Police Department can take up to one year depending on the background investigation and available testing dates.

The Clarksville Police Department has a lateral program for applicants with prior law enforcement experience. Those that qualify would still have to complete all phases of the hiring process. For questions, contact Detective Danny Fewless at (931) 553-5111.
