DEPUTY CHIEF OF OPERATIONS - CHARLES F. GRAY
Deputy Chief Charles F. Gray grew up in Stewart County, Tennessee and graduated from Stewart
County High School. He attended Austin Peay State University where he graduated in 1981 with a
B.S. Degree degree in Biology and Agriculture and in 1982 completed his degree in Criminal Justice.
In 1982 he went to work as a deputy for the Stewart County Sheriff’s Department.
In April of 1984 he was hired by the Clarksville Police Department. He began work
in North Clarksville and worked out of the precinct located at the airport. In 1988
he was promoted to Sergeant and in 1996 he was promoted to Lieutenant. He worked in
patrol division during this time and was the Field Training Officer Coordinator for
the department and a member of the Tactical Unit and eventually the Tactical Unit Commander.
In 1998 Deputy Chief Gray helped to establish the department’s Mounted Patrol Unit and was
placed in charge of that unit. In 2001 he was promoted to Captain and assigned to district one.
He was later assigned to district three.
