On November 27, 2011, around 9:30 pm, 911 received an odd call about a suspicious person
inside of Walgreens, 1954 Madison Street. The caller said a man inside of Walgreens
appeared to be wearing some sort of facial make up to alter his appearance, wearing
all black clothing, hanging around the pharmacy, went outside to smoke, was watching
people, and then reentered the store. When Officers Dana Prins and William Becker
arrived, they found the “suspicious person” seated in a chair near the pharmacy.
He was wearing all black clothing, including a ski cap, and gloves. The suspect
had on two different color face paints on his face; one of the face paints was
used to draw on a goatee. When he was asked about the use of facial paint, he
became defensive and very nervous. He had no identification in his possession
and was unwilling to give his name to the officers. Shortly after that, he told
officers there was a BB gun in his waistband. The BB gun looked like a real handgun
and had no markings to indicate it was not a real firearm. When he was pressed for
his name and date of birth, he gave officers false information. Later, he recanted
and finally provided his real name and date of birth. As officers continued the
investigation, the suspect was evasive and provided several conflicting stories.

Imagine a 19 year old woman's surprise when she found a hand grenade inside of a bag while
she was cleaning and moving items around in the store where she works.
On November 23, 2011, around 4 pm, in the 2700 Block of Wilma Rudolph Blvd, 19 year
old Nellee Moore was cleaning and reorganizing shelving in the store where she works.
She picked up a mesh type bag off of one of the shelves and it felt very heavy.
When she looked inside, much to her surprise, she found a hand grenade.
It shocked her at first, but then she thought it may be fake.
After consulting with a coworker, they started to evacuate customers
from the store, Nellee carried the bag with the hand grenade outside
to the back of the business, and 911 was called. When Police, EMS,
and Fire Rescue arrived the area was cordoned off, adjoining stores
evacuated, and the MCSO Bomb Squad was called. The MCSO Bomb Squad arrived,
inspected, and x-rayed the grenade. They found it to be an inert grenade
body and determined that it was not dangerous. Stores returned to normal
operation around 5:30 pm.

crash at 425 Greenwood Avenue in which a 97 GMC Jimmy crashed into the front of the
building. When officers arrived on scene, the 17 year old driver and 18 year old
passenger were inside of the vehicle and unresponsive. The doors were locked, so

Officers did see the driver open his eyes, but then closed them and made no effort
to open the vehicle door. While the officers were trying to get into the locked
vehicle, it caught on fire. Officer Christina Harris used her baton to break out
the driver side window, which woke the occupants up and enabled the officers to
move them to safety. Officers extinguished the fire with portable extinguishers.

he and the passenger purchased Pyara (Synthetic drug) from an Oak Grove, Ky
store and that he was “high” and “stoned”. Both were transported to

NEWS INFORMATION
We are already well into that time of year when deer crashes are on the rise.
Hunting season has also opened so the crashes are likely to increase even more.
From Jan 1 – Oct 31, 2011, we had 110 deer related crashes. During the same time
frame in 2010, there were 75 deer related crashes. In the entirety of 2010,
there were 139 deer related crashed..
We offer the following hints to avoid collisions with deer:
October through December are peak periods for deer related traffic accidents
Stay aware, awake, and be alert at all times.
Pay attention to deer warning signs – drive with caution.
Higher risk periods are from sunset to midnight and then shortly before
and after sunrise
When there is no oncoming traffic, use high beams; it will help
illuminate the deer’s eyes closer to the roadway. It will allow
you more time to react.
If you see a deer on the road, dim your headlights, since it may
make startle the deer and they will freeze in position rather than move.
Wear seatbelts. They are your best defense in a collision.
If a crash is inevitable, stay in your lane and don’t swerve, brake firmly,
hold onto the steering wheel, and bring the vehicle to a controlled stop.
Do not touch or go near the injured animal.
If you swerve to avoid a collision, try to maintain control of your vehicle.
You could easily end up in oncoming lane of traffic or a ditch.
Also if you make a sudden stop, it may result in another vehicle colliding with you.
The higher the speed of the roadway, the longer it will take you react.
So be especially aware on the interstate.
If there is one deer, there are usually more to follow. Be prepared for
multiple deer to cross in front of your vehicle.
Motorcyclists need to be especially vigilant for deer and should reduce
speed to allow for more reaction time. Wear protective gear.
If riding in a group spread out so if one rider hits a deer,

NEWS RELEASE
On November 6, 2011, around 10:30 pm, officers responded to 944 Granny White Rd after 911
received several calls about a man, Jerry Hamilton, that had posted several videos/comments
on Facebook threatening to harm himself. Additionally, Jerry Hamilton had an active
Conditional Order of Release prohibiting him from being at 944 Granny White Rd.
When Officers Gregory Rosencrants and Jeffrey Jackson were attempting to make entry
to the back door to take Hamilton into custody, he came out of a room with knives
taped to his hands, ran at the officers, and threatened them. He made many threats
that he was going to kill law enforcement. Officers exited the residence, at
which time, Hamilton barricaded himself inside of the house. The house was
surrounded and Crisis Negotiators and the Tactical Unit were called to the scene.
Hamilton was contacted several times on the phone, but disconnected each time
after a brief dialogue. Negotiators repeatedly attempted to contact him via
telephone and public address system, but received no further response from Hamilton.
Since negotiating attempts proved futile, the Tactical Unit deployed chemical
irritants into the house, forcing Hamilton to exit, and enabling officers to
take him into custody around 2 am, November 7th.
JERRY JOSEPH HAMILTON Photo was booked into Montgomery County Jail and charged
with TWO COUNTS OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT and VIOLATION OF
CONDITIONAL ORDER OF RELEASE; BOND: $6,000.
NEWS RELEASE
A man who was released from jail and placed on Community Corrections, July 5, 2011,
for 5 years after serving time for Robbery, has now been charged with RAPE.
On November 4, 2011, around 5:45 am officers were called to a Peachers Mill Rd
business in reference to a woman being assaulted. A 38 year old woman told officers
that she was walking in the area of Providence Blvd when she accepted a ride from a man,
later identified as Kevin George Jones, driving a Chevy Tahoe, TN tag, 481 XLK.
They discussed trading sex for money. When they did not come to an agreement,
the woman tried to exit the vehicle, but found that the passenger side door handle
did not function. The man pulled into a parking lot and told the woman she was
going to have the sex with him. The woman became afraid at this point and relented.
Jones forced the woman to have sex with him without her consent and struck her in
the face several times. The man forced the woman back into the vehicle, took her
to Trice’s Landing boat dock, and backed down so the rear of the Tahoe was in the water.
He told the victim to exit the vehicle and put her on her knees in the water.
He forced her to have sex, grabbing her by the hair, and striking her at times.
Jones then forced her head under the water to the point where she thought
she was going to drown. When the rape was completed, he drove to a business
on the 1500 Block of Ft Campbell Blvd, ordered her to remain naked and stay
in the vehicle. The woman took this opportunity to escape, wearing a coat
she grabbed as she fled. She flagged down a car which took her to another
store where she was able to contact Police.
KEVIN GEORGE JONES Photo 1(B/M, DOB: 1/17/80, Given Address: 3320 Greenspoint Drive) was
booked into Montgomery County Jail and charged with: RAPE; BOND: $250,000.

NEWS RELEASE
On November 3, 2011, around 8:15 pm, officers were called to the scene of a robbery
of a business in the 1300 Block of Ft Campbell Blvd. Two men entered the store with masks,
assaulted and robbed the 32 year old clerk. When the robbers fled from the scene, they
dropped a stun gun and handgun at the scene.
Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and started to comb the area looking
for the suspects. MCSO’s K-9 Officer, Deputy Kelly Potter, located one of the suspect’s,
MELVIN BANKS hiding behind an air conditioner at a house in the area. Banks was
taken into custody. After Banks was taken into custody, officers took on the task
of piecing the details of the robbery together.
From interviewing the victim and video surveillance, officers determined two masked
men entered the business, one was brandishing a stun gun and demanded money. A fight
ensued and the clerk was shocked with a stun gun and punched several times.
The clerk was able to break free from the attacker and run out the front door
of the business. But, the clerk was caught and one of the suspects attempted
to drag him back into the business. An undisclosed amount of money was taken
from the clerk and the robbers fled from the scene. Shortly after that,
Deputy Potter located Banks. Detective Ewing interviewed Banks and determined
he was the man with the stun gun and the restrained the clerk so his accomplice
could take the money. Banks was also carrying the handgun, but lost it while
fighting with the clerk. The subsequent investigation led Police to
DEVION STANFORD, a current store employee. He admitted to plotting to
rob his employer and entering into the store wearing a mask and gloves
with another individual with the purpose of taking money. The last
piece of the puzzle was put in place after investigators were able
to ascertain that another man, DONALD RAINS, drove the two masked men
to and from the store so they could steal the money in exchange for compensation.
MELVIN LEON BANKS JR (B/M, DOB: 3/17/81, Given Address: 276 S. Lancaster Rd, Clarksville)

NEWS RELEASE
On October 31, 2011, around 10:32 pm, 911 received a call from a female
about a fight on “E” Street that was in progress, then told the call taker
“never mind, it’s over” and hung up. The call taker was unable to contact
anyone after trying to call back, so they sent an officer to do
a “welfare check”. When Officer James Howard arrived, much to
his surprise, he found two men injured and covered in blood on
the ground. Initially, both were taken to the hospital by
ambulance, but later, one was transferred to Vanderbilt by
Lifeflight in critical condition due to the seriousness of
his injuries. An investigation by Detective Chris Nolder,
determined the victim, John Davie Scott, 47 and the suspect,
Ray Charles Nelson, 47 were roommates and got into a verbal
altercation at 407 E Street which turned physical. Nelson
struck Scott in the face with a bottle causing lacerations to
the face, damage to an artery and heavy blood loss. Scott, in
turn, fought back and caused injuries to Nelson’s mouth and head.
Witnesses at the scene were not forthcoming and it was difficult
to establish the facts and circumstances behind the altercation.
Also, the both combatants had been drinking.

Clarksville, TN) was treated and released from the hospital and booked
into Montgomery County Jail for: CRIMINAL ATTEMPT HOMICIDE and had a
